136 Minutes of Malmö

Publications on graffiti found on freight trains in Europe generally show a curated selection of works. Usually, the content, whether photographs sent by writers or taken by editors, does not provide a representative view of the phenomenon. The result is a rather distorted image of the real scene. In 136 Minutes of Malmö, a different and more comprehensive approach was chosen, with the aim of providing an authentic image of the freight train writing scene.

In the autumn of 2019, freight spotting enthusiast Sascha Blasche visited the freight rail yard in Malmö, Sweden for an afternoon. Being one of Northern Europe's main rail hubs for freight transport, he expected to be able to take some photographs in the 2 and a half hours at his disposal. The result is a 68-page softcover zine, which reproduces a writer's path through the rows of wagons on that specific day.

With the intention of documenting everything painted on the trains, the reader can now form their own idea of who stands out in terms of quality and/or quantity. All the photographs are ordered according to the exact time they were taken, and are divided exclusively into two chapters: monikers and traditional graffiti writing.

The minutes—which also constitute a sort of log of the day—include works by: HSM, MOBY, KISS, LIPS84, MARR, HALR, NOR, NAOST, CARS, OASE, NEU, VELS, BRO, RITA, TEARS, INO, SPACE, DREK, 2PAC, PLUSS, CPUX, HEOR, P.D.P., ZONKE73 and many others.
