Some of you probably remember the car-themed cards that were once particularly popular among children as a card game. The publisher Red Tower has re-worked the idea of the traditional card game with TOPCANS – AEROSOLS WORLDWIDE.

This re-worked version of the game revolves around spray cans that you probably know or perhaps even used. Each of the 32 spray cans is still available today, in one form or another. All spray cans have been tested for the card game, in order to determine their values needed for the card specifications and to compare them with other products. “New York writers in the 70s and 80s used lead-based, poorly covering, and often highly toxic spray paints. Soon after, European teenagers also began to spray paint on walls and trains. Anyone who wanted to do graffiti in the 80s had to buy the often expensive spray cans in hardware and hobby stores. Hobby spray cans like Marabu, Belton RAL, Quick, and car paints like Eisodur or Auto-K were particularly popular in the graffiti scene. In the mid-90s, the first Spanish and German spray paint manufacturers began to adapt to the rapidly growing subculture and develop formulas that met the needs of writers. Pigmentation, opacity, drying times, and valve systems with compatible caps for fine or thick lines were completely redesigned. The introduction of graffiti spray cans like MTN Hardcore or belton MOLOTOW Premium finally revolutionized the graffiti scene, its look, and aesthetics. Almost thirty years later, a diverse market has developed, giving rise to countless brands. Whether vintage industrial spray cans like KRYLON, QUICK, HIT COLOR, and AUTO-K, which are still available today, or graffiti spray cans like MTN, MOLOTOW, MONTANA, LOOP, or KOBRA – each of them has a card in the TOPCANS card game by ILOVEGRAFFITI.DE.

Rules:

Two or more people can play the game (a maximum of six is recommended). The cards are shuffled and dealt equally among the players. Each player holds their cards stacked so that only the top card is visible. The player to the left of the dealer then announces a characteristic of their card. The other players in turn announce the corresponding information on their top cards, and the player whose card has the highest value wins the top cards of all other players and places them at the bottom of their own stack. Usually, the highest value is considered the best, but for some characteristics, the lowest value is the best: for example, with an opacity of 1 to 4, the highest number wins. For other categories, such as the year of origin, players are advised to agree on which card is considered the best before the game begins.

If two or more players have cards with the same highest value, all players place their top cards in the middle of the table, and the players with the highest values play a tie-breaker round. The player who announced the previous number, in turn, announces a number code; the winner of this round takes the cards from the tie-breaker round in addition to those from the trick-taking round.

If a player loses all their cards, they are eliminated, and the game continues with the remaining players. The winner is the last player to win all their cards.

Since the game can last a long time, it is advisable to set a time limit. The winner is the player with the most cards at the end of the agreed playing time.

• The active player chooses a value from their current card.
• The player who wins the value receives the other player's card.
• Before the start of a round, it is decided whether the highest or lowest value wins.
• A player loses when they no longer have any cards in hand.
