Olivier Scuro, aka OPAK, is a famous French graffiti artist who has made a name for himself throughout Europe since the early 1990s. In the legendary Dirty Handz films, he, his SDK and WUFC comrades, and fellow graffiti artists left their mark on European graffiti history with their extraordinary panels and whole cars. In 2001, he was forced to stop painting trains in France due to the massive and effective police investigations against him and his friends.

Painted Graves is a brand new series of books he created that offers a glimpse into his archives dating back to the 1990s. In the second volume, he dedicated the 240 pages of the book exclusively to his writer friends who have sadly passed away.

“One evening, I took a pencil, some paper, and an eraser and sketched a series of writings in homage to the deceased. RISK , RUZD, MATH... I realize with dismay that the list is much longer than I thought. I want a tribute that doesn't degenerate into complaints or clichés."

In eight chapters, OPAK recalls past actions and presents many previously unpublished photographs from his archives featuring RISK, STONE, REMO, MATH, NESH, CHOC, RUZD, and AONE. In short texts, he recounts their stories and shares his memories of their shared actions on the trains. These are complemented by high-quality commemorative works he created for each of them on discarded trains, transforming the train cemetery into a place of commemorative memories.

The high-quality linen hardcover is a personal micro-history of one of Europe's most famous railway graffiti artists, but at the same time an interesting answer to the question of how to preserve the legacy and memory of graffiti artists who left us too soon.
